I’ll go straight to the point: The logo doesn’t render well on textiles and I found the t-shirts themselves to be of poor quality.

The quality of their T-shirts is horrible, they don’t enforce copyright protection, and they double-serve AND triple-serve on Google adwords. I’ve had experience with all 3 of these things. This company continues to break all the rules …

Let’s break it down shall we?

Do my shirts infringe the rights of a third party, including….

# Copyrights? No. Unless you can copyright a person’s name, then I don’t think so.
# Trademarks? No logos or anything here, just plain text.
# Rights in gross? Not unless someone has an exclusive right to Michael Bay’s name, in which case a few thousand film critics have some serious explaining to do.
# Rights of privacy and publicity? No photos here, again just text.

They’re doing it again. They’re re-vamping their TOS and this time, there’s several things that are bad and that are going to make me terminate my usage of them. First, while not enough on it’s own to make most people stop using their service (though pretty shady) is the fact they will be charging not only the base price per item, but ALSO a 5% fee on each item you sell out of YOUR portion of YOUR commission. These quotes are from the NEW TERMS OF SERVICE, NOT THE OLD ONE WHICH IS MUCH MORE FORGIVING.

They are also forcing people to provide tax information such as social security number to automatically deduct taxes from your commissions. Previously, it was your responsibility to report the taxes, but it was only required if you made more then $600 in a year. Anything less then $600 in a year is NOT REQUIRED to be taxed by the Federal Government. Additionally, you’re giving them your social security number! That’s so not kosher.

They also fail to mention (until you read the new agreement fully), are several ways in which they will NOT give you your earned commissions. If more then 180 days go by in which you do not total up to the minimum $25 for a check, you lose it. (They charge you a $25 “administrative fee”). You will effectively end up owing them money:

Cafepress sucks so I picked Spreadshirt.

Several weeks ago, I noticed that one of my images I uploaded for a CafePress store (note: the domain listen in the store is kaput) had been “Marked for Review.” I didn’t get around to contacting them about it until recently, and here was my none-too-pleasant conversation with two individuals in their “Image Verification Department”

I ALMOST started using Cafepress.com … I ALMOST started using Cafepress.com to sell shirts - fortunately the altruistic man in me decided not to rip off the consumers.

Firstly, they do not enforce their community use guidelines whatsoever, and consequently there is absolutely no oversight of artwork. You can upload artwork that says I RAPED YOUR MOM and CafePress will happily print it for you on any of 33 different products. If enough people complain, your products might be removed, but someone else can upload the exact same thing a week later.
Previously removed products have included shirts that say It’s only rape if she says no, so gag the bitch, and infant onesies that say Can’t rape the willing!

Secondly, they use American Apparel materials, and you already know how we feel about them.
Thirdly, they allow customers to pirate other artists’ work.
Finally, the quality of their printing sucks also. It’s like an iron-on patch.

You’ll note that I didn’t use CafePress for this tiny endeavor. The reason for this is quite simple: CafePress sucks. I set up an account there and created a T-shirt, then thought I’d create another with a different design. Ooo, sorry, if you use the free version of CafePress (see above, how people on the internet don’t have any money) you get to make one T-shirt. If you want to make two, you have to pick a different product that’s almost a T-shirt. Like the green T-shirt, that colors everything green! Perfect if you draw a lot of leprechauns. I don’t actually draw a lot of leprechauns, myself.

Either that, or upgrade your account so you pay a monthly fee. Then I guess you can do what you like. Well, if I’m going to pay money for something like that, there ought to be the remote chance that I’ll make some of that money back, somehow. After all, I’ve got my own downloadable shoe-polish to buy.
